Throughout the Bible, there is a devastating tension between the call of God on the lives of godly men to lead the Church and the awareness of the fact that these men - though they are being matured by the gospel of God’s grace - are still men with feet of clay. In Paul’s Letter to Timothy, He begins with a candid description of himself as "the chief of sinners" while in chapter 3 calling the men who would lead Christ’s Church to be "above reproach".
In this series, we’ll be exploring this tension. How can we insist on our leaders being godly men while also recognizing that they have feet of clay? How does God want to use everyone who trusts in Jesus even when we have so far yet to go to be more like Him?
